profile

Welcome to our website. We are an interior architecture and design agency, based in Farringdon, London.

The aim of our business is to align our clients’ brands and businesses with environments crafted around real people’s wants, needs and ergonomic well-being.

We believe that the essence of any successful project lies in understanding the ambitions, values, vision and challenges of our clients. We also believe that our mix of creativity, technical resource and very personal and tailored approach are a powerful combination in gaining that understanding.

From individual householders to the largest blue chip corporation, our clients are all still people first and foremost. We’ve spent the last decade developing ways that leverage the raw analytics of space with the strong emotional intelligence needed to interpret what the people who will inhabit the spaces we design need, for their optimum well-being.

We are specialists in workplace design, but are active across a variety of sectors, including commercial interiors, retail, hospitality and residential. We also do business across a wide spectrum of industry sectors such as financial, media, technology, charities and public.

We firmly believe that this cross-fertilisation of influences, experiences and relationships keeps us fresh, open and creative. Our current chief exec client might be our next personal residential client, for example - and we love that crossover.

We make our projects personal and our clients seem to like it that way.

SERVICES

We provide our clients with interior architecture and design consultancy services, with a major accent on workplace design, mixed use schemes and residential.

On workplace schemes, we also advise clients on the more strategic accommodation issues they might come across when considering renewing leases or relocating. We have a wealth of experience, which our co-founders have honed over many years that allows us to maximise the use of space, spot which areas of buildings might be under-utilised and create dynamic and interesting environments.

Our design development process is highly collaborative and relies on close engagement with you to drive out the best results. We use mood imagery and as much discussion as is needed to evaluate what you aspire to and wish for – but also to find out what you dislike or can’t bear!

Our design sketchbook is a working document, which evolves with the project and allows all parties to have an input into the design process. It’s not a precious catalogue but it’s certainly a very creative tool. As the sketchbook and the project develop, we build up an audit trail for decisions made along the journey to your fantastic new space and home.

Founder Profiles

Nigel Tresise

Director and Co-founder Nigel Tresise's experience covers the whole spectrum of construction from commercial office, residential, retail and hotels to academic projects in the UK and Europe.

Prior to moving into consultancy, Nigel worked for a US-based construction company on large projects, such as the 45-storey Hotel Arts in Barcelona. His experience on site has given him a deep understanding of construction and of fast-track fit-outs in particular.

Nigel was previously Creative Director at designers Cochrane McGregor in London, where he was involved in projects for commercial clients such as Zürich Financial Services and UBS, as well as retail projects with Debenhams and a boutique for high-fashion shoe supremo Jimmy Choo.

Since working with Gurvinder, Nigel has completed strategic planning projects with Old Mutual Asset Managers, as well as for multi-award-winning creative agencies Dare Digital and Lowe Worldwide, where he coupled his creative design skills with rigorous analytical data analysis methodology.

Nigel completed a Masters in Design Studies at Central St Martins in 2006 and was elected Fellow of the RSA later that year. A central part of his MA research was the development of tools to assist in understanding the analytical and emotional factors that affect organisations during project briefings.

Gurvinder Khurana

Director and Co-founder Gurvinder Khurana is an interior designer with a long experience of consultancy, backed up by a wide range of design & build experience across various construction sectors. Whilst the bulk of her experience has been in workplace/commercial environments, she appreciates the value of working across various sectors.

Gurvinder absorbs all that she comes into contact with and allows those experiences to feed into her work and aesthetic resources, whether they come from fashion, design, architecture, typography or nature.

Gurvinder is conscientious and passionate in her approach and always strives to deliver client-focused solutions. She seeks to have meaningful collaborations with every member of the team contributing to the design development in order to get the best out of everyone – the antithesis of the ‘design diva’ attitude!

Gurvinder believes in a holistic approach that balances the commercial and emotional requirements of an organisation and its people and looks to “get under the skin” of her clients, in order to really understand their needs and aspirations, whilst balancing this against a solid understanding of business priorities.

She has been a judge at both the FX International Interior Design Awards and Mixology North.

environmental strategy

Our approach to environmental management covers the complete spectrum of our activities, both in terms of how we design our work and how we run our business. Below, we set out how we plan and implement these strategies.

Design Work

We constantly strive to design schemes that are sensitive to the building and environment in which they sit. We encourage clients to embrace the industry standard BREEAM or SKA rating schemes, which offer frameworks for the assessment and management of the environmental impact of our proposals. We actively select products and materials that have been developed to minimise impact on the environment through the use of recycled materials, reduced energy consumption during manufacture and suitability for re- use or recycling post completion.

Business Activities

As a creative design consultancy, the way in which we run our business directly impacts on the environment in a number of ways:

Transportation – our business is located adjacent to Farringdon Station in the heart of the Clerkenwell design hub. Our location, close to major transport interchanges, maximises our use of public transport and reduces travel costs for the vast majority of our projects that are based in central London. All of our staff use either public transport or bicycles to commute to and from the studio.

Suppliers - many related product and supplier showrooms are also within easy access of our offices, which mean we have reduced the space needed to hold product literature and can keep samples to a bare minimum.
Space efficiency – by taking space with The Office Group, we keep our office space requirements to the bare minimum, as we have access to shared facilities like showers, tea points, breakout lounges and meeting rooms.

Green office – our building at 24 Greville Street has been designed to incorporate:

  • Green walls
  • Water saving features (smaller cisterns and flow restrictors)
  • Low energy lighting
  • Recycling (including a wormery)
  • Bike storage and showers for cyclists
  • Printing – we issue all documents electronically to minimise the need for printed copies and wasteful copying wherever possible.
